Twilio SMS Setup

What We Need to Register Your SMS Campaign

Campaign registration tells carriers exactly what kind of messages you will send and who gave you permission to send them. This step happens after your brand is approved.

  • Message details
  • Consent proof
  • After brand approval

Your brand must be registered first. Not done yet? Start with Brand Registration.

Why This Matters

Carriers Approve Your Campaign Before Messages Go Out

Brand registration proves who you are. Campaign registration proves what you are sending and why recipients agreed to receive it. Without an approved campaign, messages are blocked at the carrier level regardless of whether your brand is registered.

The most common reason campaigns are denied is a mismatch between the consent description and how customers actually opted in. We take the time to get this right on the first submission.

Top Denial Reasons
  • Consent description does not match the actual opt-in
  • Sample messages too vague or generic
  • Missing opt-out instructions in messages
  • Policy pages missing SMS language

Common Questions

Campaign Registration FAQ

My customers gave me their phone number when they booked. Is that enough?

No. Carriers do not consider a phone number collected during a transaction as SMS consent. If someone hands you a business card, they are not inviting you to show up at their house. A number shared for a call or invoice is not the same as agreeing to receive texts. You need explicit, documented consent that specifically mentions SMS. This is the most common reason campaigns are denied.

I have an existing customer list. Can I text them right away?

It depends on how those contacts were collected. If they submitted a form with SMS consent language, yes. If they were collected without explicit SMS consent, they need to opt in first. The compliant approach is to send a consent campaign asking them to opt in, then follow up with your promotional or service messages. We will walk you through this if it applies to your list.

What if my campaign gets denied?

We notify you immediately and identify the specific reason. Most denials come down to consent description language, sample message content, or a mismatch between what was submitted and what exists on the website. We correct the issue and resubmit. There is no additional cost for resubmission unless the campaign requires a completely different use case registration.

Can I register more than one campaign?

Yes. One brand can have multiple campaigns, each covering a distinct use case or audience. For example, a consent campaign and a promotional campaign are registered separately, and each has its own registration fee. We will recommend the right campaign structure based on what you are trying to accomplish.

Is there a cost to register the campaign?

Yes. Twilio charges a one-time campaign registration fee and a monthly recurring fee billed through your Twilio account. Current standard rates are approximately $15 to register and $10 per month per campaign. These are Twilio’s fees, not ours. We will confirm current pricing before submission.
