Twilio SMS Setup

What We Need to Register Your Brand in Twilio

Before we can send a single text on your behalf, the carriers require your business to be registered. It takes about 5 minutes on your end. The faster you get us this info, the faster your campaign goes live.

  • Required for SMS

Your information is used only for carrier registration. We do not share it with anyone else.

Why This Matters

Carriers Require Every Business to Be Verified

This is not optional. Since 2021, mobile carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) require any business sending text messages to register their brand through a system called A2P 10DLC. Without it, messages get blocked or filtered as spam before they ever reach a phone.

Brand registration ties your business identity to the phone number sending messages. It is a one-time setup. Once approved, it stays active and your campaigns run without interruption.

Without Registration
  • Messages blocked by carriers
  • Filtered as spam before delivery
  • Low deliverability rates
  • Potential account suspension

Common Questions

Brand Registration FAQ

Why do carriers need my EIN?

Carriers use your EIN to verify that your business is legitimate and matches a real entity registered with the IRS. It prevents bad actors from registering fake businesses to send spam. Your EIN is submitted to The Campaign Registry, a third-party vetting system used by all major carriers. It is not stored by us.

I am a sole proprietor without an EIN. Can I still register?

Yes, but it is more limited. Sole proprietors without an EIN can register under the “Sole Proprietor” brand type, which has lower daily message limits. If you plan to send high volumes, we recommend applying for an EIN through the IRS first (it is free and takes about 10 minutes online). Tell us your situation and we will advise.

Does brand registration expire?

No. Once your brand is registered and approved, it stays active. You do not need to re-register unless your business information changes significantly, such as a new EIN or legal name. Campaign registrations tied to the brand are separate and may need updates over time.

What if my brand registration is denied?

Denials at the brand level are uncommon and usually come down to a mismatch between submitted information and IRS records. We will notify you immediately and work through the correction. In most cases it is a simple fix, and resubmission resolves it.

Is there a cost to register the brand?

Yes. Twilio charges a one-time brand registration fee billed through your Twilio account. The current standard fee is $4.00. Enhanced vetting, which increases your trust score and message limits, is an optional additional cost. We will walk you through your options before anything is billed.
