Web Design and Lead
Generation in Highland, Michigan.
The township where the lakes stop and the acreage starts, which means the businesses here are usually serving two different customers without having noticed.
Next door to our White Lake client and fifteen minutes from us on M-59. That transition is the whole story of marketing a business from here.

What we do for Highland businesses
Six things, ordered for a township that sits on a boundary between two economies.
- Local SEO First, and the work here is mostly about the service area rather than the keyword. A Highland business typically reaches east into the lakes townships and west into open country, and those are two different catchments that most profiles average into one useless circle.
- Web design and development The site itself. If you serve both the lakes side and the acreage side, the site has to speak to both without sounding like it belongs to neither. That is a writing problem more than a design one.
- Print design and printing Truck lettering, yard signs, mailers. Worth more where drives between jobs are long and the same vehicles are seen repeatedly on the same few roads.
- Google Ads management Worth considering rather than assuming. Search volume out here is moderate, so paid earns its keep for higher-ticket trades and rarely for anything else. We will say which you are.
- Ecommerce and portals Selling online or taking bookings. Real if your product ships, because then none of the geography on this page matters to your market.
- Logo design and branding Only where it earns its money. In a township this size the truck and the reputation are already the brand.
The two-economy problem is the thing to get right here. A trade that works the lakes in summer and the acreage year round has two seasons, two customers and two sets of search terms. Running one plan across both is the most common and most expensive mistake we see in this part of the county.
Two economies, one township
This is the part that does not transfer to Waterford or Ortonville, and it is the thing most Highland businesses have never explicitly decided about.
East of here the townships are organized around water. West and north the land opens up into acreage. Highland sits on the seam, which means a business based here is usually serving both without having chosen to.
Why that costs you money if you leave it undecided
- They are two different searches. Somebody with a dock problem and somebody with a drainage problem on five acres are not typing the same thing, and a site that addresses neither specifically loses both.
- They are two different seasons. The lakes side compresses into a summer window. The acreage side runs closer to year round with a winter spike for plowing and storm work. Averaging them produces a marketing calendar that fits neither.
- They are two different tickets. Which matters, because the higher-ticket side is usually where paid advertising starts to pay for itself and the other side is usually where it does not.
- They pull your service area in opposite directions. Drawing one circle around the township splits the difference and reaches the wrong people on both sides.
The fix is usually to pick a primary and write the second properly rather than vaguely. One clear page for each beats one blended page that reads as though it was written by somebody who has not been here. That is a content decision rather than a budget decision, and it costs nothing to make.
Three things that make Highland awkward for local search
None of it is obvious and all three are fixable without spending anything.
A township with no center, again
Highland has no downtown anchoring a proximity search. Like Waterford and White Lake it is a township strung along a corridor, which means the usual advice about ranking for your town assumes a shape that does not exist here.
What to do: set the service area by the corridor and the side of the township you actually work, not by the outline.
The name is shared with places that are not you
Highland is a common place name, and it is also the name of the road that runs through this part of the county. A search engine has to work out whether a query means the township, the road or somewhere else entirely, and your content is what settles it.
What to do: name Oakland County and the neighboring townships in your profile and your copy. It reads as local to a customer and it removes the ambiguity for everything else.
Your catchment is wider than your township and thinner than your ambition
Businesses here routinely serve a wide area because the population is spread out, which tempts people into claiming half the county. That is the doorway-page instinct and it produces pages that rank for nothing.
What to do: name the four or five townships you genuinely reach and write for those properly. Fewer pages that are true beat a dozen that are aspirational.
Who runs a business here
A trades economy with a foot in each of the two markets above.
- Property and land trades. Excavating, septic, well service, grading, drainage, pole barns, fencing. The acreage side, and the biggest tickets on this page.
- Lakes and shoreline trades. Docks, lifts, seawalls, marine service. The summer side, with a season measured in weeks rather than months.
- Seasonal and weather work. Plowing, tree service, storm cleanup. The businesses best placed to run on two calendars, and the ones most often marketing on one.
- General home services. Roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical. Longer drives between jobs than in the south of the county, which makes lead quality matter more than lead volume.
- Equipment and repair. Small engine, trailer, welding, fabrication. Often the nearest option for a considerable distance, which is a ranking position worth protecting.
High ticket, low frequency, wide catchment. That combination is the best possible case for local search and it describes most of the list above. It is also close to the opposite of the dense storefront economy in the south of the county, which is why the same plan does not travel.
Where Highland actually sits
Fifteen minutes west of us on M-59, and the point where the lakes give way to open land.
Two things are worth reading off that map before you spend money on local search here.
- The township spans two economies. Water and recreation on one side, acreage and open country on the other, and a service area drawn without regard to which one you serve will be wrong for both.
- M-59 is the spine. Commercial density follows the corridor rather than the township outline, and your real catchment follows the road.

Straight answers
The questions we actually get asked by businesses in Highland.
Do you actually come out this way?
Yes. We are fifteen minutes east on M-59 and we have a client next door in White Lake, which is the honest basis for this page rather than a claim of coverage.
Should I market to the lakes side or the acreage side?
Usually pick a primary and write the second one properly rather than vaguely. Which primary depends on your ticket and your season, and that is a ten-minute conversation rather than a research project.
Is my search volume high enough to bother?
For a trade with a real ticket, yes. Highland is not Troy, but the competition is proportionally thinner and the jobs are larger. The relevant number is what one customer is worth, not how many people are searching.
How far should my service area reach?
As far as you will genuinely drive, and no further. Naming four or five townships you actually serve beats claiming the county, which produces pages that rank for nothing and read as though somebody bought them in bulk.
Does being in Highland hurt my rankings compared to a bigger town?
No. The map pack ranks your address against the searcher, not against a town’s size. What a smaller township changes is the competition, and that change is in your favor.
