Web Design and Lead
Generation in Royal Oak, Michigan.
One of the few places in Oakland County where people find a business by walking past it, and where the online version of walking past it is a Google profile rather than a homepage.
That changes what is worth building, and it splits two ways depending on which Royal Oak you are in.

What we do for Royal Oak businesses
Six things, ordered for a market where the profile outranks the homepage.
- Local SEO First, and more decisively here than anywhere else on this site. In a walking market the profile is the storefront: photos, hours, reviews and the category. Most of the decision happens before anyone reaches a website at all.
- Print design and printing Second, which is unusual, and it is because of the foot traffic. Signage, window graphics and menus are competing for the attention of somebody already on the block, and that is the cheapest customer you will ever get.
- Web design and development Still needed, with a narrower job. It confirms, it takes the booking and it carries the detail that will not fit in a profile. It is not doing the discovery.
- Google Ads management Expensive here and usually beaten by the profile work. Worth it for a business whose catchment reaches well past the walkable core.
- Ecommerce and portals Selling online or taking bookings. Real for a storefront turning away demand it cannot serve at the counter.
- Logo design and branding Matters more than average in a market this visual, and still not before the profile is right.
You compete on a block, not a city. Ranking for the whole of Royal Oak is the wrong target when your actual competition is the four businesses a customer can see from where they are standing. The service area, the photos and the categories all need to be set for that, and almost nobody does it.
You compete on a block, not a city
Density changes local search in a way people from spread-out towns find surprising.
In Waterford, “near me” might return businesses six miles apart. On Main Street in Royal Oak, it returns the three places within a two-minute walk, and the results change as the person moves down the street.
-
Your competition is next door
Not the same trade across town. The business two doors down is in every search result you are in, and beating them is a matter of photos, reviews and hours rather than strategy.
-
Your radius is small
Which is fine. A downtown Royal Oak business with a strong profile does not need a wide net. There are enough people inside a short walk.
-
Time of day matters
The searches happening at 7pm on Friday are not the ones happening at 10am Tuesday. Profile posts, hours and photos should reflect the trade you actually want.
-
Parking is part of your offer
Genuinely. Telling people where to park is useful content in this city, and almost nobody does it. Put it on the site and in a profile post.
If you have a storefront
The uncomfortable truth first: for a walk-in business here, a beautiful website is worth less than a properly finished Google profile. Spend the effort in the right place.
What actually decides whether someone walks in
-
Photos, and lots of them
People look at the pictures before they look at anything else. Interior, exterior at night, the food, the work, the space with people in it. This is the single highest-return thing a Royal Oak storefront can do and most have eleven photos from 2021.
-
Hours that are actually right
Including holidays and the day you close early. A person standing outside a locked door at 8:45 because your profile said 9 does not come back, and may leave a review about it.
-
Reviews, and recent ones
Volume matters, recency matters more. A place with 40 reviews from this year outranks the impression made by 300 from four years ago.
-
Booking or ordering in the profile
Every extra tap loses people. If they can book you without leaving the search result, they will.
-
The name matching the sign
Sounds obvious. Is regularly wrong, a legal entity name in the profile and a different name on the awning confuses both customers and Google.
So what is the website for? Three things a profile cannot do: rank for the searches people make from home ahead of time, hold the content that makes you findable for what you specialize in, and be somewhere you own rather than rent. It matters. It just is not the first thing to fix.
The honest recommendation for most Royal Oak storefronts is Presence plus the free playbook, not a $5,000 build. If you already rank and already have reviews, the answer might be nothing at all, and we will say so.
If you work on the houses
A different business entirely, and one with a genuinely available position in this city.
Much of Royal Oak went up between the 1920s and the 1950s. Small lots, tight footprints, original systems, and owners who bought in knowing they would renovate. That produces a specific and repeating set of jobs:
- Kitchen and bath remodels inside footprints that will not simply be extended
- Electrical service upgrades and the wiring that comes with a house of that age
- Galvanized and cast iron plumbing replacement
- Basement waterproofing and drainage on lots that slope the wrong way
- Roofs with dormers, valleys and additions that make a simple job complicated
- Windows and porches where matching the street matters as much as the spec
- Additions and dormer conversions, where knowing the local approval process is a real advantage
“Roofing contractor Royal Oak” is a crowded search. “Dormer roof repair on a 1940s Royal Oak bungalow” is not, and it is the one that converts.
What wins here
- Photographs of houses that look like theirs. A portfolio of new-build subdivisions does not sell a 1938 bungalow owner. Lead with the work that matches the street.
- Knowing the permit process and saying so. For an owner who has never pulled one, a contractor who handles it confidently is worth a premium.
- Content about old-house problems specifically. This is where a small contractor can genuinely out-rank a large one, because the large one is writing generic service pages.
- Patience. These customers research for weeks and get multiple quotes. Follow-up matters more than speed-to-answer, which is the opposite of the storefront half of this page.
This half of Royal Oak is a good fit for Foundation, the work is worth enough per job to justify it, and the searches are winnable with real content.
Where Royal Oak actually sits
South east of us, and the densest walkable retail in the county.
Two things are worth reading off that map before you spend money on local search here.
- Proximity is measured in steps, not miles. A profile competing at city scale is competing against businesses your customer will never walk to, which drags the relevance signals in the wrong direction.
- The storefronts and the houses are separate markets. A trade working on the old housing stock is not in the same business as a shop on the main streets, and their pages should not look alike.

There are two Royal Oaks, and they need different things
Almost every piece of marketing advice aimed at this city assumes one of them and ignores the other.
The storefronts Restaurants, bars, coffee, salons, barbers, tattoo, med spas, studios, boutiques, dental and chiro. Customers discover you by proximity, decide by reviews and photos, and often book on a phone while standing three blocks away. Your website is not the storefront. Your Google profile is.
The trades working on the houses Much of Royal Oak’s housing stock is pre-1960, bungalows, colonials, small footprints, old systems. Renovation, electrical, plumbing, roofing, basements, windows. Your customers are researching for weeks, not deciding in a minute.
The rest of this page is split accordingly. Skip to whichever you are.
What you are up against
- Royal Oak is saturated in hospitality. Restaurants and bars here compete with a density you will not find further north, and a new place has to be findable from week one because the goodwill window is short.
- Personal care is crowded too. Salons, barbers, tattoo, lash, nails, med spa. Reviews and photos are the whole battle, and the businesses winning are the ones asking every single customer.
- The trades are less crowded than they look. Plenty of contractors serve Royal Oak; very few position for old houses specifically. That gap is real.
- Everyone is on Instagram. For the storefront half, social is a genuine discovery channel here in a way it is not in most of the county. It does not replace the profile. It feeds it.
- Customers here compare. Younger, online, and entirely comfortable checking four options before choosing. A five-second website loses before anyone reads a word.

The local SEO playbook
For a storefront in this city this is not a warm-up, it is the main event. Photos, hours, reviews, posts.
-
Ask every customer for a review, step 2
In a market this dense and this review-driven, a habit of asking beats every other tactic on this page. Do you own your website? Ten minutes. Worth checking if a friend of a friend built it in 2019.
The four Oakland Counties
Royal Oak is the dense south. Understanding how differently the north of the county buys is useful if you are thinking about expanding.

Straight answers
I have a restaurant. Do I need a website at all?
A small one, yes, for the menu, the story, and to be somewhere you own rather than rent from a platform that can change its terms. But if you are choosing where to put effort first, it is the Google profile, and it is not close. Photos, hours, reviews, then the site.
Everyone tells me I need to be on Instagram.
For a Royal Oak storefront, social is a genuine discovery channel and worth doing. It is not a replacement for the profile or the site. It feeds them. What we would not do is build a business on a platform where you cannot see who followed you and cannot take the audience with you.
I am a contractor. Should I say I specialize in old houses?
If it is true, yes, and it is the single most useful positioning move available to a contractor in this city. Plenty of people serve Royal Oak; almost nobody claims the housing stock specifically. It narrows the market and raises the close rate, which is usually the right trade.
My competitor is two doors down and outranks me.
Then it is almost certainly photos, review recency or hours accuracy rather than anything structural, at that distance proximity is a wash. Those three are fixable in a week and cost nothing. Start there before you buy anything.
Is Royal Oak too competitive?
For hospitality and personal care it is genuinely crowded. For the trades it looks crowded and is not, because almost nobody positions specifically. In both cases the answer is the same, be the obvious choice for something particular rather than a general option for everything.
Do you work down here or just up north?
Both. We are in Waterford, which is about half an hour up Telegraph or Woodward depending on the traffic. Close enough to meet, and the map pack follows your address rather than ours anyway.
Twenty minutes, straight answer
Tell us which Royal Oak you are, the storefront or the houses, and what a customer is worth. We will tell you which engine fits, what it costs and when we could start. Or that the free playbook is genuinely all you need, which for a lot of storefronts here is the honest answer.
